We were promised a park, how did we end up here?

    A History of Broken Promises

We were promised a tree-covered park

The park was originally designed with a thick tree canopy, walking trails and a small cafe. In 2018 Design Miami worked with city staff to gut the center of the park to make room for their tent 6 days a year.

    We were Promised No Conventions

Despite promises made to the community, city staff have brought Design Miami, The Boat Show and Bitcoin Conference into the park and continue to make efforts to sell the park for conventions. Today the park is closed for almost all of November to February for event construction. City Staff even hosted a multi-day music festival in the park.

We were Promised Parks Dept Management

In 2018 staff made public testimony that Pride Park was a park and would be managed by the city's parks department. However shortly after the park opened, staff gave away our park to Oak View Global, a private company which manages the convention center. That company treats our park like a fair grounds, leaving it empty or under construction all year, just so they can host a few days of events.

    What's wrong with Pride Park?

    Private Company Management

    - The Convention Center is managed by the Oak View Group, a multi-billion dollar property management company.
    - In 2021 a contract amendment gave the Oak View Group control of Pride Park.
    - The Oak View Group is not managing the park to the benefit of residents.
    - The park is treated like fair grounds, either empty or under-construction almost every day of the year.
    - The Oak View Group's sales team is selling our park to conventions.
    - Pride Park is the only public park in Miami Beach managed by a private company.
